N-Tree Studios started on a whiteboard in our living room.
Founded by Jim and Alysha Rosser in Seattle, WA.
The Founders
Jim is co-founder and CPO. He spent a decade building cloud and AI systems for enterprise clients across consulting and systems integration.
Alysha has been in tech since 2019 and has spent the last few years building Compound AI systems: models where they are needed, and determinism everywhere else.
The Company
We started N-Tree Studios to build the tools we needed. We solve from first principles, which means our products are focused on addressing the challenges we see.
By this point we've all seen how AI has captivated the world, and for good reason. Standardizing the use of probabilistic reasoning has allowed people to completely change how they work, and in some ways for the better.
Just like any technology, we view the model as just one of many parts in a system. What sets it apart is that most technologies have clear bounds of what they can and cannot do. AI is different, it will attempt anything you throw at it, which has made it tempting for people to slowly hand over more and more of the load.
This means we needed to define for ourselves what bounds we'd like to place around how we use it here at N-Tree Studios and in the products we build.
We started by observing what aspects of the work it did well, and where we faced challenges. We noticed common issues like having to repeat the same instructions multiple times after noticing the AI self-reporting success while having missed several requirements. The results were often hard to verify with certainty, and when we moved at the speed we wanted, it meant technical and decision debt started accruing at the same pace.
We wanted to build something that tackled these problems directly, so we built our first product, Grove.
